i read this in family circle magazine and thought it was neat.
"Researchers at the University of California, San Diego, found a strong link between speaking a tonal language (such as Mandarin, a form o Chinese), in which the meaning of a word changes depending on the tone, and having perfect pitch (the ability to produce a specific musical note without hearing a reference note). Fewer than 1 in 10,000 Americans and Europeans possesses perfect pitch. They found that 60 percent of Mandarin-speaking students who started music lessons by age 5 demonstrated perfect pitch, compared to 14 percent of English language speakers."
As a side note, Celine Dion & Barbara Streisand both have perfect pitch.

9 rays of sunshine:
thats a pretty cool article! i guess that explains why me and ethan are so bad at music...were just such experts at the english language i guess!
A recent Friend magazine said Elder Russell M. Nelson has perfect pitch and has been in many choirs, including award winning quartets. He also started his career as a doctor at age 22!
Adam and everyone, be sure to visit Pick a Peck and rate the new design I just wrote about.
adam, i'm sure that's it! just keep telling yourself that! =)
shawn, interesting about russell m. nelson. i like him and respect him a lot.
haha...i thought it was a pretty good excuse myself! speaking of being a perfect pitch singer, im sure everyone rememebers mine, ethan, logan, and (partly) dad's attempt to record some songs for mom for a present! no alarm woke us up as well as hearing our own melodious voices in the morning before church!
And I want someone to find my CD! Someone took it out of the CD player and it has mysteriously disappeared! I love that CD! And my wonderful boys that made it for me!
Oh, and that's interesting about the language and perfect pitch connection!
Adam I was think that you and Ethan had perfect pitch. Umm, guess I was wrong. (Cory)
hmmm....think i might be picking up some sarcasm!
