an emergency?

on sunday we came in from church & began preparations for lunch. somewhere in this process, the phone rang. being the non-phone people that we are, we saw the number as something like "city of raleigh". we were kind of thinking, "city of raleigh? on sunday? who could that be?" and didn't answer. then shortly thereafter we got a call from something like government offices or something. still, we did not answer. just as we sat down to lunch cory happened to look out the window and goes, "there's a police car in our driveway!" the doorbell rings...and we did answer that....and the officer asks if we dialed 911. at that point we realized it must have been elise. a few months ago we taught her about emergency things (what to do in a tornado, fire, etc.). as part of that, we also taught her about 911 and stressed the importance of only calling in an emergency. we explained our theory to the officer, and he was really nice about it. then we, again, stressed the gravity of calling 911!

Oh, the horror!

Wow, what are the chances of something like that happening? I guess the good side of the experience is that now you know Elise shouldn't have any trouble dialing 911 in an emergency, or even just for the fun of it!

And I guess we could suggest phone reform for the non-phone people... :)

did i mention elise was in her panties when the officer came by?

true, adam, we can put our minds at ease on that one...i think?!

okay, so had we answered the phone the officer might not have come by....theoretically anyway. ;)

Well, I'm curious. What did she say when she called? Or did she just hang up when someone answered? Teaching kids phone etiquette is fun. I remember Josh answering the phone one time when he was 3. He said hello, then he said, "My daddy's poo-pooing right now."

And another thing... isn't it reassuring to know that the police can find you if you REALLY do need them?!

rise, i think she just hung up, best we can gather. she has started answering the phone lately when it rings, but fortunately has never told whoever it was something that personal (or funny) yet. =)

haha...im surprised ethan hasn't dropped in a comment yet about how his kids won't ever call 911 by accident, not to mention they'll be born potty trained!

Yeah, Ethan, where are you?

Ethan is fully booked with dates with Utah Valley girls.

I told the officer my little girl was playing with the phone. (I do not know if he beleived me though) Upon hearing my explanation he wanted to know where she was. So she came around the corner in her underware. I am sure the officer had his doubts about me. (Cory)
