Happy Mommy Moments

I love those moments where you just feel proud and happy to be a mom.

The other day Elise and I had a few sharp words (that seem to happen a little more frequently as she approaches the teenage years).  In truth, we were probably both a little wrong in how we handled things.  We both apologized, but it made my day to find a pack of Mentos from her "stash" and a note telling me how much she loved me and that I was "meant" to be a mom.  Love that girl to pieces.  Her sassy tween self and all. :)

Last night I was giving Ian a hug and kiss good night.  He said, "When you give me a hug and kiss it just makes me feel happy inside and I just don't know why."  Wow.  Ditto, son.  Ditto.

Merry Grace was talking to me as I was tucking her in the other night.  She told me that sometimes she feels sad at school because she misses me and she feels like crying.  But she says when that happens she prays to Heavenly Father in her heart and asks Him to help her feel better.  "And," she says, "it works."  I love that she knows where to turn when something is hard.  What a sweet girl.

Paige tells me at least 74 times a day that I'm "the best Mommy in the whole wide world."  And I never, ever get tired of hearing her say it in her cute little teeny tiny voice.  That girl is my favorite Paigie in the whole wide world.  And that's exactly what I tell her.

There's just something wonderful about being a Mommy.

Need a little Energy?

The other night we were on our way to my Sister-in-Law's birthday party, Cory stopped to fill up with gas and then went into the store.  He came out with an energy drink.  When he got in the car with it, Ian immediately began telling him how he shouldn't drink it.  He said, "Daddy, an energy drink is one way to get energy, but its not the right way."  So I immediately asked the obvious follow-up to that: "Well, Ian, what is the right way?"  To which Ian replied, "Get a spoonful of sugar and pour it down your throat."

Health tips from an eight-year-old. :)  So close and yet....

The Rock

There are a lot of things about being a Mom that are hard.

But I will never, ever get tired of finding a rock named "Mailbox" taking a bath in my sink.

The Sunset Cafe

Since dinner ended up being a little earlier, Cory & I called our little restaurant "The Sunset Cafe".  I don't think the kids really cared what it was called.  I was the chef extraordinaire, and Cory played the host, server and waiter.

I love how he seated each of the girls. :)  We turned on Pandora, which helped create a fun atmosphere.  The fiddle instrumentals might not have been what the kids were expecting, but I think they liked it.

We served them buffalo chicken wraps and cooked cabbage and reese's cups for dessert.

I will admit to the dinner not ending as wonderfully as the Chocolate Shop experience did.  But we're a real family and that's just how it happens sometimes.  So after a few sharp words, some door slamming, a little quiet time and some apologies, all was well again.

I Don't Think That's It

Paige had acted out a little with her Daddy on Sunday, so I was trying to encourage her to apologize to him.  We talked about what she did and how she acted.  Then I asked, "Is there anything you want to say to your Daddy?"  She looked over at him in total seriousness and says, "Carrots!"

Not quite the "I'm Sorry" I was looking for, but it was much funnier. :)
