Just some things that might be of interest...maybe at least one topic will catch your eye...
ethan gave us a surround sound system for christmas. it is really cool. besides the neat features of the surround sound itself, we can also listen to cd's and the radio on the system. and they sound so great. the other night we put in an oldies cd (which we all love) and danced around the living room with the music rocking! it was so much fun. and then yesterday morning we listened to church music and it just sounded so awesome. what a cool present!
in other electronic gadget news, we bought a dvd player/recorder at the after thanksgiving day sale. we haven't had a lot of time to mess with it, but the other day cory recorded our first movie onto a dvd. it was willie wonka and the chocolate factory. the kids (especially ian, who constantly asks to watch "boompa") love that movie. and now instead of just having it recorded on the cable dvr thingie (forgive me for being so technical), its a commercial free recording that the kids can watch anywhere. i can't wait to record more! elise is requesting "annie" next...
an iron update...my levels are almost back up to normal. the dr. is impressed with how quickly & efficiently i brought them up. i now only have to take one pill a day and continue my iron rich diet. i'm so proud! what a good patient i am!
last, but not least, with the impending arrival i got released from my primary calling. i'm sad because i really love those kids (i've been with the same class for over a year...), but at the same time i realize the necessity of it. especially in a ward our size where they have plenty of resources to draw upon. there are so many new move-ins that i cannot keep up. when they were announcing the speakers sunday & called the name of the concluding speaker, i assumed it was the high council speaker. when he got up to speak he introduced himself and said he and his wife had been in the ward about 2 or 3 months! oh well! anyway, i'm sad about my class, but the brother they are having take over will be great. i think the kids will really like him.
speaking of the kids in my class, one of the boys is named tommy. elise has her first crush, and its on him. she thinks he's nice and handsome. yesterday was his birthday and so she drew him a picture in sacrament & had me deliver it during primary. (cory said i should not encourage it, which i really don't think i am. i didn't suggest she do it and i don't bring him up to her. however, i did play messenger yesterday and help pass the note to tommy!) she's so funny about it. last night while i was loading the dishwasher she was talking to me about tommy and goes, "i REALLY want to marry tommy one day." i was like, "that sounds good." and i gave her the talk about how i thought it was good that she liked someone who was nice to others and wanted to follow jesus and all that stuff. she agreed. then she goes, "please remind me to marry tommy when i get bigger because i really, really want to marry him!" it thought it was so adorable!
and in a post this size, could i possibly sign off without a poopy story? well, today i was coming home with the kids, when all of a sudden i realized that i needed to go--in a hurry! we were almost home, but things were getting urgent. of course, i have an tendency to discuss these things sometimes & elise goes, "mama...why do you always say when you have to pee pee or poopy?" maybe i should rethink my strategy, huh?! anyway, we made it home without any incidents, but shortly thereafter, ian comes running into the room going, "tummy hurt" and "i need poopy badly" and so on, doing a dead-on reinactment in his own way of my drama from earlier. it was hilarious to see myself in him. scary and slightly embarassing, but funny, nonetheless!

10 rays of sunshine:
halle is totally smitten with a boy at her preschool named Carson. He is very funny and is her "boywend" She updates us regularly. I check on it, so do Shawn and my mom. I guess we hope to create an open dialogue for the future. :). There is also a little boy in our ward named Jacob. His mom pulled me aside one day and told me that he had made a special effort to look nice for church. They asked him why and he said I need to look nice for Halle. She is my favorite, she is really cute and she makes me laugh. So I guess they are all getting little crushes at this age. Very fun time.
I wish we'd thought of the surround sound that night Daddy, the boys, and I watched a movie after you guys went to bed! It sounds like it would be really nice! Great idea, Ethan!
We've been praying about your iron. So glad things improved so quickly! We'll remember to be grateful in our prayers, too.
Sorry to hear about Primary, but sounds like the right thing. That's nice that you're in a ward where that is an option; and that folks are aware of the situations and act on their inspiration. When Adam was born, we both had heavy callings and I don't know if it occurred to anyone to consider a release for me. Maybe it did and they didn't feel that was the right thing. I don't know, but I guess it worked out. I think I was Primary president and Daddy was maybe in the Bishopric. Anyway, within a few months we sure had our hands full with the new baby, two other children, and Ethan recovering from the accident (those first months he needed much attention with his care, another hospitalization and surgery, the wheelchair, schooling, broken bones healing, casts, etc.) A time of learning and growth and dependence on the Lord and many blessings.
That was sure cute about Elise. I have to agree with her that Tommy is a nice boy. I was very impressed when I met him in your class...seemed like he'd been taught well at home.
And last but not least, that was a cute poopy story. Glad you made it and glad Ian enjoyed acting it out. Who knows, that scenario could be acted out in the next ward talent show?!
lisa, its reassuring to know that the other kids her age are going through it too. i know all kids are different, but it helps to have an idea of "is this too soon" or "should i worry about this". i love that halle calls him her "boywend". that's so cute! i agree about the open dialogue. i hope that she will always want to be open with me about her "boys", especially in the future!
mama, i can't believe you guys had callings like that then! how stressful. its hard to know at this point what coulda/woulda/shoulda taken place, but wow! i can't even imagine! cory & i were both impressed at how aware everyone was about our situation. there are sooooo many people pregnant right now in the ward & in primary, so its a lot for someone to keep up with. i appreciate that they have done that. even though i am sad to "lose" my class & not to be in singing/sharing time with elise, i feel like it is the right thing. with cory teaching every sunday and then me trying to nurse a baby & getting ian adjusting to nursery (he's now going the last hour all by himself), i think my calling would suffer. and since we do have lots of people to call to things, i really feel it is for the best. but i'll miss those little guys. (especially tommy b/c he really is adorable!)
I am surprised that more of the Jarrells have not commented on the poopy portion of the blog.
I do think Kristen enjoys the whole Elise and Tommy thing a little to much.
I guest I need to invest in smith and weston stock for the future boys.
I proud of you Kristen for getting your iron up to where it needs to be.
If anyone was wondering Duke Lost this week. Oh Happy Day!
GO HEELS!!
haha! what can i say? my family loves a good poopy story!
and you're right...i do think the elise & tommy thing is cute. but some of that is that i think tommy is just the sweetest thing ever, so i think elise has chosen well for her first crush!
and thanks about the iron...i know you hated having steak several nights, right? =)
i couldn't believe the duke game, it was an intense game. i don't really cheer for duke, but i did feel sad for grandma! you're heels pulled out a close one. b/t the panthers and my fudge the day could have been a complete loss without that win!
Since when? :)
You have not idea about new move-ins. EVERY week, 2 or 3 or 4 new families are welcomed to the ward.
yes, but you live in UTAH! it's much more unusual to have that kind of rapid growth out here. we ARE in a good area for that, but it's still a lot. i've personally never been in a ward like that. they were already talking about splitting our ward before this huge influx of people. now the chairs for the chapel go almost all the way back to the baptismal font. its crazy!
how often do they have to split wards out there?
We are in our second ward for this house, and busting at the seams. I think they will split us within the year. Shawn's mom went through like three wards in one year. It was carazy. I just noticed the mis-spelling, but I kinda like the effect, so i'ma leavin' it in. Ward splits really depend on the area. here there is constant construction on a huge scale. We have actually been waiting for another building to finish so we physically can split. I was surprised to read that Kristen's ward is like that. That is great to have so many members near you.
it seems like out here that ward splits are usually so infrequent that when they happen it is a very emotional occurance, as people who have shared a ward for years and years are suddenly separated. i'm sure our ward will have some of that, but the huge growth within the last year will help ease that. do you guys go through that with wards splitting that often? i'm not sure why our ward in particular is growing so fast. we're in a good area, but it still seems unreal. it is really nice to have lots of members around, though, like lisa said. and all the new people make us feel much more established in the ward. =) i think part of our hold up on a split is some building construction on our current building.
